The Damned Don't Cry (2022)
Among many stories told from an outcast's perspective, this masterpiece stands out in its transparency when portraying the surreal nature of reality in a very realistic story world. All events take hold in Morocco, but the issues and themes are universal. Fyzal Boulifa and the crew did an excellent job fleshing out this story and bringing it to life through all the cinematic tools at their disposal.
The Insomnia of a Serial Dreamer (2020)
Sleep, dreams & insomnia guide us through life, reality, beauty & understanding. "The Insomnia of a Serial Dreamer" sparked something in me from the first time I read the title. Its paradoxical wordplay was all I needed to confirm that whoever made it has the contemplative outlook on life I relate with.
Ashkal (2022)
A well-to-do, hard-working family man is found burnt to death among Tunis' sea of construction sites. As the fragmented police unit begins its investigation, another young housemaid is also found burned at another construction site just a few days later. The possibility of self-immolation, murder, terrorism, and even the supernatural, are explored as the investigation evolves with even more similar incidents with loose connections.
After the End of the World (2022)
"Man plans, God laughs."
This quote can sum up an underlying sentiment in this movie. Humans wouldn't last this long if it weren't for hope of a better future. It is like a candle that can light a cave no matter how dimly. If that weren’t the case, After the End of the World would have no rubble to uncover and work with.
